The painting has a complex and difficult to decipher signature.
There is a small repair to the rear of the the canvas that is indiscernable when viewing the painting.

A beautifully painted example of Carter's work. It has an iteresting technique to show the tree structure and water surface.
Carter was born in London. Apprenticed as an Engineer, he served in the Army during the second world war. He moved to Devon in 1962 to study marine painting .
He was elected a member of the
Royal Society of Marine A rtisits in 1969.

Frank Shipsides MA 1908 – 2005

Watercolour signed and dated 1982

Frank Shipsides was born in Mansfield Yorkshire and Trained at Nottingham College of Art before taking up a career as a commercial artist. After moving to Bristol much of his work was for different agencies. On retirement at 60 he began his most prolific period of work, with over 10 one man exhibitions. He had many commissions from Bristol City council, including painting all seven “HMS Bristols”. He was awarded an honorary Master Of Arts degree by Bristol University. Among other awards were a Vatican Medal and Swedish Award for his model ships.
In addition to painting Frank Shipsides wrote and illustrated books mainly with a Bristol and or marine theme.

Parker painted in the middle period of the 20th century, mainly in watercolour.A Painter of landscapes,marine and floral still life. He lived in Ealing most of his life and worked as a customs officer.
Examples of his work are in HM Government Collections and were purchased from the Civil Service Art Club and the Customs & Excise Art Club. He was a memebr of both Clubs. He was also a member of the Wapping Arts Group.
Examples of his paintings are held in private and Government collections. Additionally many examples of his work are held in collections in The USA.
This painting has been reframed in a new frame and is in good condition.

Tony Williams was born in 1946 in Wimbledon. He trained at Sutton art school where a passion for drawing and design soon developed and he worked as a graphic designer, becoming creative director for a national ad agency group although he always longed to return to painting.

Now exhibiting widely in the West Country where he has lived for 40 years, he has achieved rapid recognition in only four years being shortlisted for the Daily Mail 2003 Not The Turner Prize and winning the major Marine House at Beer £1000 prize at the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts 2005 exhibition.

He currently lives in Scotland.

Birket Foster was a painter, illustrator and collector. After an apprenticeship as a wood engraver in 1859 He exhibited his paintings at The Society of Painters in Watercolours. He achieved full membership of the society in 1862. In his watercolours he developed the themes of an idyllic rural England with which he made his name. Chromolithographs spread his popularity to an audience who could not afford the watercolours.
Thomas Kell is believed to have been a member of a lithography firm in Holburn London in the mid 19th Century. He specialised in Architectural views and portraits.
